Welcome to choir
Dear Choir Parents and Students,
Welcome to Carson Middle School Choir! I am Miss Valley and I am excited for a great year of making music. Now that we are a few weeks into school and schedules are settling I wanted to reach out and let you know about a few things starting soon in choir. All students went home with a calendar the first week of school please mark those dates down and let me know if you have any conflicts; if anything changes, I will let you know as soon as I can. My goal is to send home a general email every month to let you know updates on what is going on in choir, I will also post as a blog post on our music website (CMSmusicValley.com).
The only homework students will have for choir is to practice. Students should have brought home a yellow practice log last week for keeping track of their practice time. I ask that students practice 100 min throughout the week; they can also play music games, which they can find on the website as well. I ask that parents sign the practice log every week to verify that the students are practicing. We check practice log every Friday but they are not completely due for a grade until the end of the month. If you have questions about this please let me know. Other “homework” will only come home if they do not finish it in class.
Some upcoming things students will be working on is music for the Veterans Tribute Concert, November 7 @ 9:00 AM in the CMS Cafeteria. This concert is very special as it is our only day time performance and we invite veterans to join us for the concert. If you know any past or present military that we should invite to the concert please send me their name and address, I will send out invitations out in October. I am also looking for places I can contact like assisted living facilities that may want to join us. Anyone is welcome, even without an invitation but as this is dedicated to our veterans, I want to send them a special invite.
Students will also be working on NZNMEA Honor Choir Auditions. The NZNMEA Honor Choir will take place in February and is an audition only choir. We will work on the audition material in class and students will have the opportunity to audition in November. Students are not required to audition but are encouraged to do so. Students that make the choir will participate in a two-day event with students from around Northern Nevada and will work with guest conductor, Malary Engstrom from Reed High School in Reno.
Don't forget to sign up for remind!
Please email if you have any questions,
